Direct Entry (DE) admission in Nigeria offers a golden opportunity for candidates with advanced qualifications such as OND, HND, NCE, A-levels, or JUPEB to gain admission directly into 200 level. However, it is often misunderstood and highly competitive, especially for top-tier courses like Medicine, Nursing, and Law.
If you are considering DE for competitive courses, you must start early. Most universities in Nigeria allocate less than 5% of their total admission quota to Direct Entry applicants. Why? Because schools prioritize filling up their 100 level and foundation programmes, which generate more tuition income and give them full academic control from year one.
Due to this limited quota, the bar is higher for DE candidates. Aside from strong academic records, you must ensure early registration with JAMB, obtain your transcript on time, and target universities known for accommodating DE students in your course of interest.
Take note: Medicine, Law, and Nursing are among the least accessible courses via Direct Entry in most federal universities. Some institutions barely admit five DE students into these programmes yearly.
To increase your chances, work with an experienced university admission consultant who understands the system, deadlines, and institutional preferences. Early preparation, strategic choice of universities, and correct documentation will give you the edge you need.
Start now. Don’t wait. Direct Entry admission is real, but only for the well-prepared.
