O'Level Mistakes That Can Cost You Admission
Many candidates focus on scoring high in UTME but overlook their O'Level results. Every year, thousands of students miss admission, not because of their JAMB score, but because of avoidable O'Level issues.
Here are four common O'Level mistakes that can prevent you from gaining admission.
1. Incomplete O'Level Requirements : One of the biggest reasons candidates lose admission is not having the required O'Level subjects.
Every institution requires at least five credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics (for most courses), as well as other subjects relevant to your chosen course. If you are missing any of these required credits, you may not be considered for admission.
Some private universities may offer admission with the condition that you complete your missing requirements within a specified period, but this is not the standard practice in most institutions.
2. Failure to Upload O'Level Results on JAMB CAPS : Having the right O'Level result is not enough—you must also upload it to the JAMB portal through an accredited CBT centre.
If your O'Level result is not uploaded, the institution may be unable to recommend you for admission on JAMB CAPS, even if you meet every other requirement.
Many candidates have lost admission simply because they delayed this important step.
3. Uploading Fake or Altered O'Level Results : Submitting a forged or manipulated O'Level result is a serious offence.
If a fake result is discovered during the admission process or even after admission has been offered, the admission can be withdrawn. In some cases, candidates may also face further disciplinary actions.
Always upload only genuine and verifiable examination results.
4. Poor O'Level Grades : Although the minimum requirement is usually five relevant credits, candidates with stronger grades often have an advantage.
Many universities use O'Level grades as part of their Post-UTME screening or aggregate score. Candidates with more A's and B's generally earn higher points, increasing their chances of securing admission into competitive courses.
While excellent grades do not guarantee admission, they can significantly improve your chances.
FINAL ADVICE
Your O'Level result is just as important as your UTME score. Ensure your results meet your course requirements, upload them to JAMB as early as possible, use only authentic results, and strive for the best grades you can achieve.
Avoid these common mistakes, and you'll greatly improve your chances of gaining admission into your preferred institution.
