EBSU Gets NUC Approval for Seven New Health Science Programmes for 2026/2027
Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Abakaliki, has secured approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to introduce seven new Health Science programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session.The development expands the range of health-related courses available at the university and gives prospective students more opportunities to pursue careers in different areas of healthcare.
The approval covers two professional programmes leading to Doctor degrees and five bachelor's degree programmes. The newly approved programmes are Doctor of Physiotherapy, Doctor of Optometry, Bachelor of Radiography and Radiation Science, Bachelor of Health Information Management, Bachelor of Community Health Science, Bachelor of Environmental Health Science, and B.Sc. Public Health.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Associate Professor B. N. Ukwah, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Technology, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki. Reports on the announcement indicate that the programmes are intended to expand the university's academic offerings in health sciences while creating additional pathways for students interested in healthcare-related professions.
SEVEN NEW HEALTH SCIENCE PROGRAMMES APPROVED FOR EBSU
The programmes approved for the 2026/2027 academic session are:
1. Doctor of Physiotherapy
2. Doctor of Optometry
3. Bachelor of Radiography and Radiation Science
4. Bachelor of Health Information Management
5. Bachelor of Community Health Science
6. Bachelor of Environmental Health Science
7. B.Sc. Public Health
Doctor of Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is concerned with the assessment and rehabilitation of people experiencing movement and physical-function difficulties arising from injury, illness or other conditions.
Doctor of Optometry
Also approved is the Doctor of Optometry programme. The programme adds optometry to EBSU's expanding range of health science options and provides another pathway for students interested in eye and vision care.
Bachelor of Radiography and Radiation Science
Radiography is an important area of healthcare involving medical imaging and related applications of radiation science.
Bachelor of Health Information Management
This focuses on the management of health records, information and data within healthcare settings.
Bachelor of Community Health Science
The course is expected to provide training in areas connected with community-based healthcare, health education and disease prevention.
Bachelor of Environmental Health Science
This field covers health issues associated with the environment, including areas such as sanitation, environmental safety and disease prevention.
B.Sc. Public Health
The seventh programme is the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (B.Sc. Public Health). The programme provides another academic route for students interested in population health, disease prevention and other public health-related areas.
With the approval of the seven new Health Science programmes, Ebonyi State University is set to offer prospective students a broader selection of programmes in the healthcare field from the 2026/2027 academic session.
